TIRED of rules against dancing and other tight rock concert restrictions, Singapore music fans and industry leaders are calling on authorities to lighten up.

A group of music business representatives met police in a bid to ease strict concert regulations, the Straits Times newspaper said yesterday.

"For Singapore to become a cultural and entertainment hub, we will have to look at some of these restrictions again," marketing manager of Singapore's trendy Zouk discotheque Andrew Ng said.

Even police said the time might be ripe for change.

The situation came to a head last month when popular Taiwanese singer Zhang Huimei left the stage to shake hands with adoring fans in the front row.

Concert promoter Legend Entertainment was given a stern warning by Singapore police and may have to pay a fine for every hand Zhang shook. Singapore rules explicitly ban contact between performers and fans during a show and forbid the audience to dance.
