Kenneth Jeyaretnam was named following the resignation of party chairman Ng Teck Siong. A party statement said Monday that Siong resigned after the central executive committee passed a no-confidence vote. Kenneth Jeyaretnam returned to Singapore earlier this month after living in England. He is the son of Joshua B. Jeyaretnam, who founded the Reform Party last year after serving as the first opposition member of parliament from 1981 to 1986 representing the Workers Party. The elder Jeyaretnam died last year.
