S'pore helps Burma's spies
Bangkok Post October 17, 1997.
THE Burmese government has opened a high-tech warfare and spying centre built and supplied by a Singaporean company, the Asian Defence Journal reported in its September edition distributed Oct 16 in Bangkok.
The new Cyber Warfare Centre in Rangoon "has been optimised for tapping domestic phone, fax and e-mail lines on a countrywide basis" the journal said.
Despite severe economic problems and plummeting foreign reserves, the military government spends more than half its yearly budget on arms and defence, according to World Bank figures.
