US State Department reports on

THE US State Department today released a 15 page report
on Human Rights practices in Singapore .
Among cases mentioned in the report are those of Mr Tang Liang Hong, Mr J. B. Jeyeretnam, and Dr Chee Soon Juan.
The 1996 Singapore report is also available at the department's website.
The Straits Times did not carry anything about this report till
Feb 2:
Govt bullied opposition last year, says US report.
On Feb 1 it carried a report on what the State Department had to say
about China and some other countries.
The report ran with this headline: US rates China 'most improved' on human rights
The Chinese paper Zao Boa referred to the US report in its Feb 1, 1998 edition.
