Dr Chee to speak at conference on media

SINGAPORE Democratic Party secretary general, Dr Chee Soon Juan, will speak at an international conference The Media and Democratisation in the Asia-Pacific jointly organised by the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific, Sydney University and the Centre for Democratic Institutions, Australian National University.
Other speakers include New South Wales Premier, Bob Carr, Julian Schweitzer, deputy vice president, of The World Bank and other leading journalists and academics.
Dr Chee will speak on The Media in Singapore: Myth or Model?
During the visit, the SDP leader will also address Amnesty International Australia at the NSW Parliament House on February 25 as well as meet with representatives of the Australian Burma Council.
Other talks and seminars are also being scheduled with Singaporean student communities in Australia.
In addition, Dr Chee will meet with Australian govenment officials in Canberra. Messrs J. B. Jeyaretnam and Tang Liang Hong are also scheduled to attend the meetings in Canberra.
