France Presse August 12, 2000 The 64-page tabloid combines a print version and website, and is targeted at the Internet generation, SPH said. "We're delivering a newspaper targeted at the young, wired generation - a generation that wants news they can use and relate to, plus a voice in affairs that affect them," said Bertha Henson, editor of Project Eyeball. The five day print version from Monday to Friday will feature local, foreign, technology, sports and entertainment news. The online version will be updated 24 hours with a weekend guide showcasing the hobbies of Singaporeas plus activities and entertainment available in the city-state. SPH said 120,000 copies of the paper would be distributed free on today and in the first week of the launch. SPH is facing the end of its lucrative newspaper monopoly as the government moves to gradually liberalize the media industry. Dominant broadcaster Media Corporation of Singapore Pte. Ltd., owned by state investment arm Temasek Holdings, has been granted a publishing license and has announced plans to launch a free tabloid called Today together with subway operator SMRT. |
