India, Singapore conduct naval exercises

THE Indian and Singapore navies would jointly conduct a 14-day 'Anti-Submarine Warfare' (ASW) off Kochi from Mar 19.

This is the eighth in the series of exercises conducted between the two navies since Februrary 1993, a Naval release said here Mar 18.

The ships participating in the exercise include INS Sindhukirti (submarine) and a maritime reconnaissance Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy.

The annual asw exercise serves as a platform for professional interaction and exchanges between the Indian Navy and the Singapore Navy, the release added.

Commodore M S Pavithran, chief staff officer (operations) of the Southern Naval command will preside at the opening ceremony Mar 19 along with Maj Giam Hock Koon of the Singapore Navy. Ltc Chew Men Leong, commander of the First Flotilla (Comfirstflot) of the Singapore Navy would also be present.
