Democratic Party Press Release August 14, 2003 SINGAPORE THE Singapore Democrats’ website has been disrupted - the second time in six months,. The website’s host has informed the Party that on August 7 at 2:50 pm a file on the website was “modified”, rendering the website dysfunctional. Experts have told the SDP that this is probably the work of hackers, a press release from the party said. "The Singapore Democrats have been relying on its website to disseminate political information and to make announcements about its activities. For example, publicity for the recent International Youth Conference for Democracy was done mainly through its website. Now that the website is crippled, the SDP will be severely handicapped in reaching out to its friends and supporters," Dr its Secretary General, Dr Chee Soon Juan . Earlier this year, the website was hijacked and pornographic material was put in its place. Effort is being made to restore the website as quickly as possible although the time taken for the repair may depend on the severity of the damage that has been done. "The Democrats will not allow its opponents to deter us from bringing
information to Singaporeans and from fighting for openness and transparency
in this country. Attempts to destroy our website will have the reverse
effect of galvanizing our resolve to bring democracy to Singapore, "
said Dr Chee. |
