Jones February 27, 2004 SINGAPORE SENIOR Minister Lee Kuan Yew Thursday, Feb 26, obtained the support and assurance of Singapore Airlines Ltd pilots' union leaders to leave their troubled relationship with management behind and make a fresh start for the sake of the airline and Singapore, the Business Times reports. In a meeting with past and present leaders of the Airline Pilots Association (Singapore), Lee made it clear to them the stakes involved in preserving Singapore's position as an aviation hub and the need for changed mindsets to survive the effects of globalization. "I want to create a new partnership of trust and cooperation," Lee said, extending the government's support to help the pilots move on with management, and assured them the government will make sure SIA acts in good faith. Lee's hand of support was unanimously accepted by the pilots, who said they never wanted to jeopardize the airline or the country and promised to make a fresh start with the management in negotiations for the renewal of their collective agreement, the report said. |
