Melbourne December 6, 2005 Letter: Joseph K. H. Koh "DR CHEE Soon Juan (Letters, 2/12) claimed that he could not move a motion in Singapore's Parliament to investigate my Government's involvement in the Myanmar Fund because he was not a member of Parliament. But Dr Chee is the secretary-general of the Singapore Democratic Party, which at that time had two MPs. The Government had suggested that Dr Chee get them to demand a commission of inquiry. He never did so. Without being an MP, Dr Chee did show up before a parliamentary select committee hearing and challenged the Government on health care costs - a fact he advertises in his own letter. He complains that the public was excluded from the select committee hearing, but suppressed the fact that the hearing was given full media coverage, that he gave false information at the hearing, and was censured by Parliament for perjury. Need I say more about his penchant for wild allegations and track record for disingenuous prevarication on Myanmar and many other issues? Joseph K. H. Koh, |
